TAFE - Pesticide Spraying

Pesticide Spraying for Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE)

Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE) is the third-largest tractor manufacturer globally and the second-largest in India by volume. Established in Chennai in 1960, TAFE produces over 180,000 tractors annually, with a robust presence in domestic and international markets. For this project, TAFE sought to harness drone technology to improve pesticide application on farmlands, ensuring efficiency, safety, and reduced chemical exposure to farmers.

The Challenge

Farmers were at risk of unintended pesticide exposure, leading to potential health hazards like skin illnesses.

Manual spraying methods were time-intensive and inefficient.

Limited road access and the availability of skilled drone pilots delayed the project's initiation.

Assembly delays of the promised drones caused setbacks in project delivery.

The Drone Solution

Deployed drones programmed to navigate farmlands, spray pesticides efficiently, and return autonomously.

Configured parameters like flight speed, height, and endurance for precision spraying.

Drones equipped with infrared cameras patrolled the fields, detecting issues in real-time and feeding data to the system.

Followed all regulatory guidelines for safe drone operation and pesticide application.

Outcomes

Item

Achieved precise pesticide spraying across 107 acres in 90 days, reducing pesticide wastage and human labor.
